The Steel Yard is a non-profit industrial art center and shared studio located in Providence, RI. We’re an arts maker space and non-traditional craft school offering courses & educational programs in blacksmithing, welding, jewelry, foundry, and ceramics. Depending on the program a student is enrolled in, they may pay a subsidized fee, receive a scholarship, or get paid to develop new skills.
Our blacksmithing department offers classes ranging from one day workshops to once a week, multi-week classes. We have 26+ blacksmithing courses a semester, with offerings such as Knife to Meet You: an introduction to blade smithing, Forging Fundamentals, Forged Roses, and Forge your own Chopsticks.
The Steel Yard also has an artist in residency program that is open to makers in ceramics, jewelry, blacksmithing and metals. Resident artists have 24/7 access to facilities, as well as teaching opportunities.
